Kure Beach in April: 2 Hours from Raleigh

We missed the ocean so much that we could not wait for summer, so on April 15 we drove to Kure Beach. Just two hours from our home in Cary and we were there. The ocean should still have been cold, but, to our surprise, the swimming season was already in full swing.
Only the bravest got in so far and the surfers in wetsuits, plus the boys showing off in front of their friends. Mid-April on the calendar, and we already had real summer. Fishermen were pulling black drum and bluefish off the pier, and the beach was filling up steadily as the day warmed.
